You would have been hard pressed to find a professional mechanic in any type of racing wearing gloves in 1991.
But if you looked closely at pit road during the 1991 Daytona 500 you’d have see a few guys on the #3 GM Goodwrench team testing the first pairs of prototype Mechanix Wear gloves.
During the past 20 years the irreplaceable research and development at race tracks has help transform the classic one sized fits all work gloves into what we call high performance work gloves. A machine washable form-fitting glove made with advanced materials and technologies that allow the wearer to work faster, safer and cleaner than ever before. Today we offer 77 different models of gloves and a NASCAR® pit crew that in 1991 took 20 seconds to change four tires and refuel the racecar, can now perform those same tasks in less than 13 seconds.
As we celebrate our 20th year in racing we know our gloves had a hand in improving pit stop performance by addressing the hand protection needs of professional mechanics and pit crew members. However, we're most proud of the fact that our high performance work gloves developed with the help of our crew members on pit road are now the high performance glove of choice for anyone with a tool box.
Commemorative glove produced in a limited quantity and will be presented to individual NASCAR crew members as token of our
appreciation for their contributions to Mechanix Wear R & D over the past 20 years.
